What is SecuGen® SDK Plugin for Remote Desktop?

The SecuGen SDK Plugin for Remote Desktop allows users of Microsoft Remote Desktop Services to scan their fingerprint with a SecuGen reader connected to their local device and use that fingerprint to remotely authenticate to a SecuGen biometric application delivered over a secure RD session.

Use with Biometric Applications

  • The SecuGen fingerprint reader will work only with Biometric Applications that support the SecuGen APIs provided in the SecuGen FDx SDK Pro for Windows
  • Biometric Applications can be remotely operated through a Remote Desktop session together with a SecuGen fingerprint reader that is locally plugged into the client device
  • Two Biometric Application demos that capture, display, register, and match fingerprints are included with this plugin

How does it work?

  • The user’s fingerprint is first scanned on a reader connected to the RD client device
  • The scanned fingerprint is then securely transmitted by the RD client to the RD Session Host server
  • All SecuGen API functions other than fingerprint capture and device-level functions are executed by the Biometric Application on the RD Session Host server
  • The Biometric Application is able to access the local fingerprint reader via USB port redirection
  • Note: This plugin was not designed to authenticate users to start up an RD session. It was designed for authenticating to a Biometric Application running on an existing RD connection. Therefore, the user should first connect using normal RD authentication methods before running the Biometric Application.

Easy to install

Installation is straightforward with no programming required.

  1. Copy the plugin files to the host on the server that will run the Biometric Application
  2. Copy the client library to the client device and configure the local registry
  3. Connect the SecuGen reader to the client device and install the fingerprint device driver
